Skins Fire - Part one review

I found this episode to be quite intriguing, with all it's mysterious feel to it. Effy works as a receptionist for a leading London Hedge Fund, which isn't doing her any good. She stumbles across crucial financial information relating to a troubled deal and embarks on an affair with her wealthy boss. Effy seems to take things for granted. He flat mate Naomi tried to stop her from ruining her life, but this was not possible. Tragedy strikes once Effy finds out that Naomi has cancer.

Skins is a teen drama, which reaches out to many teenagers for it's controversial story lines that have explored issues such as dysfunctional families, mental illness(eating disorders), adolescent sexuality, bullying, substance abuse and death. However, Skins Fire is the first episode from season seven and is much different from the older series as not all the characters are in this season from the previous ones. Season seven seems to explore the working world, as well as the characters adult hood and how they cope. Therefore, I feel as if this season reaches out to people in their late teens and possibly in their early twenties, but it is still a teen drama that does also relate to teenagers.

Effy is represented as quite a dull character, someone who is independent, quiet and nonchalant. This is because during the episode I found her quite tedious. For reasons such as the colour of her clothes, despite her dressing nicely, the way she was presented, her personality, and her surroundings. The crew have dressed Effy in blunt colours, such as blues, blacks, greys and the occasional white with pink. I think that this reflects her personality - a "not-so-happy" person, quite serious. I also found that her surroundings were quite dull, especially at work and this was as if it reflected how fed up she was with her job as she was surrounded by black colours and different shades of blues which reflects her personality - depressed?

Naomi Campbell is represented as an unemployed, free character. This is because during the episode I found her as a headstrong character as she does whatever pleases her. Naomi routinely smokes cannabis and hopes that one day she will become a comedian. Naomi's characteristics are presented through her clothes as well as her actions. For example, she wore a leopard print skirt to a casino with Effy and I find that this reflects her headstrong character, and the fact that she doesn't go to work and just drinks alcohol and smokes cannabis, also reflects her "free" character, and her headstrong character.
